Mule Deer are one of the most valued big game animals in Texas. Whether it’s their limited distribution, low numbers or their unique appearance and behavior, most hunters value Mule Deer as a precious resource and a prestigious trophy.
The estimated Texas Whitetail Deer population of close to 4-million deer dwarfs the Mule Deer population due to their limited range. Mule Deer populations hit an all-time low in 1945. There were so few Mule Deer in Texas that they were not considered to be in Texas anymore. Due to conservation efforts by Texas Parks And Wildlife, Texas hunting groups, and landowners, the Mule Deer has made a miraculous comeback. Today, the Mule Deer population in Texas ranges from 180,000 deer during dry season to approximately 280,000 deer during the rest of the year. Mule Deer are found primarily in Western Texas and Northwestern Texas, specifically the Marfa Basin of the Trans-Pecos, Panhandle and the Western Edwards Plateau. As you may have guessed, our Marfa Ranch is on the Marfa Basin.
We do have a great population of Mule Deer on our Marfa Ranch with many trophies being harvested. We study how the Mule Deer migrate from our corn-feeder stations and our water stations thus giving our guests a very high success rate. We hunt by motorized vehicles and stalking.
We do have a package hunt for Mule Deer, which includes accommodations. Our Marfa Ranch is clean, modern and very comfortable. You will have all the comforts and amenities of home while you enjoy a spectacular deer hunt.
